Balanced Rock is a huge, 700-ton boulder perched on a small pedestal just off of the main Garden of the Gods Road. Don't expect to be here alone, however. There is a small parking area for this famous rock, and there are frequently crowds of people scrambling up to it to take photos.

The garden's red rock formations were created during a geological upheaval along a natural fault line millions of years ago. Archaeological evidence shows that prehistoric people visited Garden of the Gods about 1330 BC. At about 250 BC, Native American people camped in the park; they are believed to have been attracted to wildlife and plant life in the area and used overhangs created by the rocks for shelter.

Evergreen Cemetery, which is definitely not haunted, holds the bodies of many pioneers, Soldiers, Activists, Aviators, and an astronaut to name a few.

August 15, 2023, Gold Camp Road

Gold Camp Road after the gate is primarily hard packed dirt. This route is ideal on a gravel bike, but a road bike would be fine too. Ideally you would take Gold Camp Road up and Cheyenne Canyon Road down since that portion is paved. There are great views of the Broadmoor Hotel down below, and the Will Rogers Shrine up above.
