November 10, 2023, Devil's Lake

Devil's Lake is a recreation paradise just inland enough to provide a little shelter from the coastal winds. While cycling around its perimeter you'll have half a dozen chances to get down to the water due to all the parks that dot its shores. If you're doing a long ride down Hwy 101 the State Park is a great overnight stop.

Dark, narrow, and winding this stretch of the 1930s run of Highway 101 is a cyclists dream. Far less busy than the new stretch of highway you'll have a much more peaceful ride here. However, due to the narrowness of the road you'll need to be aware of when you due encounter car traffic.

October 4, 2023, D River

The D River is one of claimants to the title of "World's Shortest River". While this claim is disputed there's no denying that it's run from Devil's Lake to the Pacific is incredibly brief (either 440 feet or 120 feet, depending on how/when it's measured). Aside from that you'll find easy access to the beach from the nearby recreation site that is also home to 2 of the largest kite festivals in the world during summer and autumn.
