Well maintained, fun ride

Some trails in Epping Forest are wide, fairly smooth and easy to ride ... others are narrow, single track and very slippery when wet. The difference is not always obvious on a map - check photos when you plan.

Ride westbound for the downhill. Deceptively tiring eastbound, especially the first half, followed by a slight uphill grade which doesn't let your legs recover.

The main cycling route, known as the Green Ride, heads north-east towards Epping or south-west towards Loughton, taking you through the scenic Epping Forest.

There's actually more uphill travelling northbound, but it isn't particularly steep. Southbound, the climb that begins at the northern end of High Lane is evil.
