A very well-preserved castle, partly inhabited and partly open to visitors, it is definitely worth a stop.

The Castello di Avio, also known as Castello di Sabbionara (in older German texts as "Schloss Aue"), dates back in part to the 11th century and is one of the oldest fortifications in Trentino. It is located above the Vallagarina (German: Lagertal) in the municipality of Avio (district of Sabbionara d'Avio). Since 1977, thanks to a donation from Countess Emanuela di Castelbarco, the castle has been owned by the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI) foundation. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castello_di_Avio A visit is a must! Once you pass through the entrance gate, you'll find yourself before a series of buildings, all surrounding a mighty 11th-century keep. Among these is the Palazzo Baronale with its numerous artistic treasures and the famous Stanza dell'amore, the Chamber of Love. Furthermore, there are five towers to admire here, including the so-called Picadora, from which those hanged once dangled. The entire complex is surrounded by a triple-layered, crenellated castle wall. Current prices, opening hours, etc., can be found here: https://fondoambiente.it/castello-di-avio-eng

A beautiful refuge at the foot of Mount Altissimo

On the top of a spur of Mount Vignola, which dominates the Val Lagarina crossed by the Adige, one of the oldest and most evocative castles in Trentino has stood for over ten centuries, having belonged almost uninterruptedly to the noble Castelbarco family who during the Middle Ages transformed the fortress into a small feudal court, a destination for artists and intellectuals. The grandeur of the complex, evident even from a distance thanks to the visual impact of the perimeter of crenellated walls and towers that today surround a lush garden of vines and cypresses, contrasts with the gracefulness of the extraordinary frescoes that decorate the interiors of the Camera dell’Amore and the Mastio from the mid-fourteenth century. While war and the military arts are celebrated in the first building by delicate decorations and interesting frescoes, capable of offering an authentic cross-section of the chivalric life of the time, in the Mastio it is courtly love that triumphs. In the famous “Chamber of Love”, between arrows that pierce the heart of an elegantly dressed lady and a passionate knight, Love rides a wild steed infusing the entire environment with a lively rhythm. The complex is reached by a path that winds through the vineyards and runs along the southern wall. The wide slope that opens up to the visitor is a succession of terraces supported by stone walls, softened by rows of vines and slender cypress trees. Avio is a place of unexpected contrasts, ideal even for the little ones who, through the involvement of play paths, can have fun learning about the stories and characters that have animated it over the centuries.
