Hof te Poddegem is the oldest known farmstead in Grimbergen. The origins of this medieval fortified farm date back to a 5th-century Frankish domain. 'Poddegem' literally means 'the home of the people of Pud'. In the 13th century, Hof te Poddegem was mentioned as a fief of the Prince of Grimbergen. (Wikipedia)

Splitter boxes protected the aircraft from air raids. During the park's construction, remnants of such a splitter box surfaced. These historical remains were incorporated into the park's design. The Flemish Land Agency (VLM) built a meticulous reconstruction, perhaps the first of its kind in Flanders. The concrete layer for the reconstruction, constructed by the German occupiers, was left intact. Thus, the past remains tangible and visible in the park. (Flemish Land Agency)

The iconic round aircraft hangars at Grimbergen airport are architectural gems. They are actually 2 gigantic concrete mushrooms. They were built in the 1940s to a design by entrepreneur Alfred Hardy from Dworp. That is why they are sometimes called the 'Hardy hangars'. He patented the design. They are two identical round hangars, 7 metres high and with a diameter of 50 metres, in which approximately 35 aircraft can be parked. The hangars are considered a beautiful example of top architecture. In 2007, they were protected as a monument. Both hangars will have been restored by September 2025.
