The Venner sundial was created by Wilhelm Bünte. He collected boulders for years, and over time, the idea of creating a sundial emerged. In the center is the large central boulder, on which two smaller stones rest, thus representing a trinity. On the ground are the "number stones," which indicate the course of the day, the course of the year, the time, and the position of the shadow depending on the position of the sun. The four cardinal directions are also marked. The dimensions of the cross on the central boulder in the center of the stone circle of the compass rose sundial correspond to those of the cross on the altar in the Venner Walburgis Church. ------ There are also several rest areas made of large boulders around the sundial. ------ Outside the sundial is a memorial to the victims of 1945, as well as gravestones commemorating the successors of the Bünte farm and the Schlafhof. Almost every single tree offers something unique. Crooked, full of holes, with torn bark...

Perhaps quite important for us cyclists: The path towards Bad Essen (on the right) is much worse than on the other side of the canal.
