The Milchsiedlung in Wandlitz is a small, historically characterized residential settlement area in the Basdorf district of the municipality of Wandlitz. 1. The name "Milchsiedlung" does not refer to milk production, but to Air Force General Erhard Milch, who had the settlement initiated during the Nazi era. 2. It was built in the 1930s and early 1940s as a residential settlement for employees of the armaments industry. 3. The settlement was closely linked to the nearby Bramo works (Brandenburgische Motorenwerke), which produced aircraft engines. 4. The settlement predominantly features semi-detached houses built of wood, which were originally intended as a functional settlement for workers and employees. 5. The buildings are kept relatively simple and follow a uniform, functional architecture of the time. 6. After the Second World War, the area continued to be used and partially repurposed, but remained as a residential location. 7. During the GDR era, the original military function of the settlement lost its significance, while residential use continued. 8. Today, the Milchsiedlung is a rather quiet residential area with some recognizable historical building fabric still visible. 9. Some buildings are symbolic of the industrialization and armaments phase of the region in the 20th century. 10. Overall, it is considered an inconspicuous but historically interesting part of the settlement development around Wandlitz and Basdorf.

Basdorf is the ultimate hub in the Heidekrautbahn network. Coming from the north, the two branches from Wensickendorf and Groß Schönebeck meet here. From the south, the historic main line from Berlin-Wihelmsruh and the bypass line from Berlin-Karow join the line. From Basdorf, trains will also run via the reactivated main line to Berlin-Wihelmsruh. In addition to the new line, the other sections will also be made fit for the future. This primarily includes the planned extension of existing platforms to a usable length of 140 meters. Directly adjacent to Basdorf station is the maintenance workshop of the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB). The Heidekrautbahn Museum, which is well worth a visit, is also located there. The hydrogen filling station is a brand new addition to the company premises. It can be used to refuel the new hydrogen trains, which have been in service since the end of 2024. By using green electricity from a regional wind farm, the hydrogen used is green, and the trains make a significant contribution to CO₂ reduction. Furthermore, their electric motors make them significantly quieter and more powerful than the previously used diesel railcars. The new vehicles are part of the overall Heidekrautbahn Hydrogen Rail project: https://wasserstoffschiene-heidekrautbahn.de/projekt. More information on the reactivation of the Heidekrautbahn can be found at https://www.i2030.de/nord/.

A beautiful moor, especially when the fog drifts through the forest. Then it becomes mystical.

Now, with every step we take, we delve deeper into the Tegeler Fließ beech forest. It's like another world. The trees are tall and mighty around us, the sun shimmers through them, making it beautiful to walk among them. https://youtu.be/K2gz8agkDRU

We continue along the beautiful path along the water, continuing around the lake until we reach the mouth of the Tegeler Fließ stream into the Mühlenteich pond. We sit down next to a bench and rest for a snack. We almost don't want to leave this place. After a moment, we continue walking, see two trees embracing each other, and we cross the Tegeler Fließ. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2gz8agkDRU

We now walk past the marshland, the green of the trees beautiful, and a short distance further on we reach Lake Mühlenbeck. A tree stump, like a small island in the lake, accessible by stepping over the water, offers us a wonderful view of the lake. We savor the moment. The smell along the path is sometimes strong and earthy, while the shoreline is sometimes swampy and muddy, and we spot tadpoles among the shoreline plants. Here's the full tour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2gz8agkDRU
