Around 1850, the Neubrandenburg Beautification Society began creating a park in the marshy Werderbruch. In 1904, Goethestrasse was extended with a promenade to the bathhouse. The approximately 36-hectare cultural park in its current form was created between 1969 and 1975 under the lead landscape architect Heinrich Krebber. The Werderbruch between Gätenbach and Oberbach was filled with rubble from the city center destroyed in World War II. Playgrounds were created, works of art, sculptures, the town hall, and the festival meadow complemented the park, creating the cultural park we know today. The cultural park on Lake Tollense is a popular recreational area for walkers, athletes, and children.
