This is a walk-in sculpture intended to commemorate the suffering of forced laborers in Dortmund towards the end of World War II. It is one of two attractions on the cultural island of Phoenix Lake in Dortmund-Hörde. The other is the Thomas Converter. There is also a great view of the lake from here.

After the steelworks was closed in 2001, the site was remediated and flooded in 2010 to create a new residential and recreational area. The lake covers approximately 24 hectares and is surrounded by a 3.2-kilometer circular path for pedestrians and cyclists. From the Kaiserberg dump to the east, there is a magnificent view of the recreational and new development area.
