The Schleswig-Holsteinische Geest lies in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein and is one of the three landscape types of the federal state, alongside the Schleswig-Holsteinische Marsch in the west and the Schleswig-Holsteinischem Hügelland in the east. This natural area is also referred to as the central ridge of Schleswig-Holstein. It stretches as the Hohe Geest from the Danish border in a wide strip via Bredstedt, Hohenwestedt and Itzehoe into the Hamburg region and to Lauenburg. Between the Eastern Hügelland and the Hohe Geest lies as a narrow strip the so-called Vorgeest or Niedere Geest, which partially overlaps (e.g. near Owschlag) with the Hohe Geest. In the western lowlands, there are isolated Geest islands (for example Stapelholm and Erfde). Source Wikipedia

Great spot right on the Selenter See. When it's windy, the waves roll right up to the wooden deck – almost a bit of Baltic Sea feeling in the middle of the country.

I'd only ever seen painted cows like these at numerous Swiss locations... lovely to see the two of them frolicking in front of the Dieksee promenade.

On the mirror-like surface of the lake, the shadows of the trees danced, while on the opposite shore, the first lights of the houses twinkled like tiny stars. A rowboat, moored all day, rocked almost imperceptibly. In that moment, time seemed to stand still, and the Dieksee became the perfect place to let the day end in peaceful serenity.

Lake Behler lies between the town of Plön and the village of Timmdorf in the heart of the Holstein Switzerland region. Like many other lakes, it is fed by the Schwentine River and is directly connected to Lake Langensee and Lake Höftsee. It is surrounded by Lake Schösee, Lake Schluensee, Lake Dieksee, and Lake Suhrer See. It covers an area of 227 hectares and has a maximum depth of 43 meters. Fishing is currently prohibited. There is a bathing area on the edge of Timmdorf, where the shore is very shallow, and there is a sunbathing lawn at the edge of the woods and a restroom.
