December 24, 2025, Parque de Gasset (Ciudad Real)

Construction began in 1917, and it has undergone several renovations and expansions in 1933, 1960, 1985, and 2000. It is located practically in the city center, although in the southern part of the city. At the southern end of the park is the "Cross of the Married Couple," a 15th-century wayside cross that has been rebuilt several times. It commemorates the romantic and tragic story of Sancho and Blanca, a couple from Ciudad Real and Miguelturra, who died for marrying. Their parents were enemies and chose to kill them when they eloped to marry in secret.

This square, known as "La Plaza" to the people of Ciudad Real, has been the heart of public life in the city since its founding as a Saturday market square in the 13th century by King Alfonso X of Castile and León. It has undergone several urban redevelopment projects, including the renovation of its facades, in an attempt to create a unified and aesthetically pleasing look; from the first one around 1728 to the last in 1988.

Works of art related to the book and multimedia displays in a museum dedicated to the knight Don Quixote. The center's various exhibitions are dedicated to Cervantes' famous novel, Don Quixote de La Mancha. During the visit, you can see a display in which 10 of the work's characters engage in conversation. There are also a dozen paintings with Cervantes themes painted by José Jiménez Aranda, one of the best 19th-century illustrators of Don Quixote.

On Alarcos Street is the Pyramid Tribute to Alarcos (Valentín López, 2009) It has a relief on each of its sides. One of the reliefs is the rose window of the chapel of Our Lady of Alarcos, a place that could not be repopulated during the reconquest, and which led to the old Pozuelo Seco becoming a Royal Villa. The second shows King Alfonso X the Wise, king who founded Villa Real in 1255, issuing a Carta Puebla, which is the third of the reliefs on the fountain.

The Quijano Theater, originally privately owned, was acquired by the Ciudad Real City Council in 1988. After a rehabilitation directed by municipal architect Emilio Velado, the theater was inaugurated in May 1990 with the poetic-musical performance “State of Siege.” by Pablo Neruda, directed by Mikis Teodorakis. Since then, it has offered a stable theatrical program and has become a local cultural reference.

At Bar La Soga, you can enjoy Spanish cuisine recipes. Some recommended options are tasty tapas, laing and cod. In addition, their unbeatable coffee is a key point. The decoration is comfortable and the atmosphere exotic. The competent staff will serve you with admiration. Don't hesitate to visit this place if you are in Ciudad Real! And what is grateful for pet owners is that they can enter without any problem.
