Davide Fioraso
July 6, 2026, La Cala (Porto di Palermo)

La Cala is an arc of sea enclosed between Via Francesco Crispi and the Foro Italico and corresponds to the oldest port in the city of Palermo. The Phoenicians were the first to exploit this natural inlet, into which the rivers Kemonia and Papireto flowed, now diverted due to the expansion of the historic center. The pier, protected to the east by the Castello a Mare, was built between 1300 and 1445 and remained the city's main landing place until the 16th century, a period in which the port development of the areas of the Santa Lucia districts (the current Borgo vecchio) and Sant'Erasmo began.

April 10, 2026, View of Cefalù

When we were here in early April 2026, we couldn't do the circular trail (closed), but it was possible to walk to the Castel after paying the entrance fee. Definitely worth it, great view

Located at the end of Corso Calatafimi and the road to Monreale, it is one of the four historic entrance gates to the city of Palermo, perhaps the most important.
