A fun building, as befits a nature shop. Unfortunately, we came on a Sunday, so a visit was not possible. A colorful bicycle on the corner of Kirchstraße points to the shop.

Traffic now runs elsewhere, the old Bundesstraße is very quiet. This allows you to leisurely admire this half-timbered house. But beware: the tree in front of it had few leaves in my photos. In summer, it obscures more of the half-timbering.

The Münsterbauhütte (Minster Workshop), one of the most traditional stonemasonry businesses in Germany, has existed in Freiburg for over 800 years. From around 1200 to 1536, the workshop was responsible for the construction of Freiburg Minster, and to this day it plays a key role in its maintenance. The medieval workshop was located on Münsterplatz and was relocated to Herrenstraße around 1600. In 1911, the Münsterbauhütte moved to the corner building at Schoferstraße / Schlossbergring. Around 15 employees work here – including stonemasons, stone sculptors, stone technicians, and apprentices. The Münsterbauhütte's responsibilities are diverse: These include planning restoration measures, selecting appropriate types of stone, working on the stone, erecting and dismantling scaffolding, positioning the finished stones on the building, and documenting the completed work. Since 1890, the workshop has been run by the Freiburg Minster Building Association (Freiburger Münsterbauverein e. V.). It is responsible for the preservation of the exterior stonework on behalf of the Münsterfabrikfonds, the owner of the cathedral. In 2006, an additional workshop with a dedicated team of approximately five to eight employees was set up directly at the foot of the cathedral tower for the restoration of the west tower spire. This workshop was dismantled after the successful completion of the renovation work in 2018/2019. https://www.muensterbauverein-freiburg.de/muensterbauhuette/

From 1770 to 1824, the theatre and comedy house was here, and from 1789 onwards it was also listed in the fire register as a comedy and granary. When the former Augustinian Hermit Church was used as a municipal theatre from 1823 onwards, it was used to store grain for the grain trade. This then led to its current name. In 1884 it was rebuilt, and at the suggestion of citizens and clubs the upper floors were again converted into a ballroom with a capacity of 550 people. Access was via two granite staircases on either side of the main entrance. It was destroyed down to its foundations in the bombing raids in November 1944. It was rebuilt in its historical form in 1970, with the interior being adapted to the new requirements. Source: Wikipedia
