In 1565 there is a note in the city's tax book that the "stone hut" was set up here. Shortly after 1600, the two-storey new building was built with the stonemason's workshop on the stone ground floor and the visible half-timbered building on the first floor, which is very rare in Freiburg. Up until 1915, the two city tower guards lived upstairs and the stonemasons can work on the square when the weather is good. In 1956 the workshop was given up and only the one in the new Münster workshop was used.
