Tips from the Community

Hans-Peter & Heidrun
August 24, 2026, Sornoer Kanal

The canal at the foot of the Rostiger Nagel is the Sornoer Kanal and connects the Sedlitzer See with the Geierswalder See. The 1250-meter-long canal runs from the northern bank of the Geierswalder to the southeastern bank of the Sedlitzer See. The name of the canal is a reminder of the village of Sorno, which was devastated in 1971 by the Sedlitz open-cast mine. The flooding of the Sedlitz open-cast mine was completed in 2025, creating the Sedlitzer See.
