Today, the Thalenweide is a small "city park" that features, among other things, a 350-year-old oak tree. The Thalenweide was formerly a pasture with the farm buildings of the Thalen family. In 1913, the municipality of Westerstede acquired this area. The town hall was planned for this location, but things turned out differently. Today, the Thalenweide is a small "city park" that features, among other things, a 350-year-old oak tree. Furthermore, the Westerstede artist Alice Peters-Ohsam created a memorial here for those who fell in the two World Wars. The water tower was built in 1933 to supply Westerstede with water. After the Oldenburg-East Frisian Water Association took over the water supply, the water tower was decommissioned in 1967. An investor bought the tower for the symbolic price of one Deutsche Mark and converted it in 1979 into an eight-story residential tower with a café.

The town hall stands on the market square. It was built in 1927. Originally, the town hall was planned to be built on the Thalenweide meadow, but these plans were scrapped. At the rear of the town hall building is a glass mosaic by the artist Schmidt-Westerstede entitled "Fish-Lobster-Crab." This mosaic hung in a fishmeal wholesaler from 1964 to 1988, but was then dismantled and carefully preserved when the business closed.

This memorial commemorating the victims of the two World Wars was erected in Westerstede in 1961. It consists of two larger-than-life clinker brick female figures. They stand side by side without a base, facing the viewer head-on. The left-hand figure has both hands raised in front of her bowed face, while the right one restrains her hands on top of each other in her lap, staring into the distance with a heavy gaze.

A great, large and clean shelter with video surveillance. The hut is right next to a playground. Here you can take a break and dry off even when the weather is bad.

This church in Westerstede was dedicated to Saint Peter. Simon, nicknamed Peter (Rock), was a fisherman on Lake Genesareth when he was called by Jesus Christ to be a "fisher of men" together with his brother Andrew. According to Catholic understanding, he is the highest apostle, and the two thousand year long line of popes - currently Francis - are his successors. In statues and paintings, Peter is almost always depicted with two keys in his hand; this attribute refers to the Bible verse in Matthew: "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Chapter 16, Verse 19). Peter is also known together with Paul as the "prince of the apostles"; their common feast day in the calendar of saints is June 29th.
