This is the Westerwald... the Taunus is on the other side of the Lahn river 😜

It dates back to the Middle Ages and once served as a customs and guard post. With its massive stone architecture and distinctive roof, it lends the bridge its unique charm. From the tower, there is a fantastic view of the Lahn River and Limburg Cathedral.

The Limburg lock on the Lahn was built in 1850 as part of the Lahn River expansion for shipping. It overcomes a height difference of approximately 4.5 meters and has a chamber length of approximately 41 meters and a width of 5.4 meters. The lock is one of the oldest functioning structures of its kind on the Lahn and has been renovated several times, most recently extensively in the 1980s. It is idyllically situated below the old Lahn Bridge with a view of Limburg Cathedral and is now used primarily by pleasure boats, the Lahn excursion boat, and canoeists.

Viewed from the mouth of the Lahn, it is the twelfth lock, is a listed building and consists of the chamber lock, the lock canal and a lock keeper's house.

Everything seems a little smaller than on the Moselle or Rhine, but it is still a nice spectacle when the ships go through the lock there.
