The Este hiking trail is truly scenic here, but you must be able to ride a bike. It goes up and down over hill and dale. Trekking or mountain bikes are required here. We managed it with a child trailer, but we definitely do NOT recommend it. Our little one got quite shaken up.

After his active career, Schmeling lived on a country estate in Hollenstedt, where he was a respected figure until his death in 2005. His name is still closely linked to the place today, which is reflected in street names and memorials. This veneration often overlooks the fact that Schmeling, despite his rejection of the National Socialists(!), played an ambivalent role during the Nazi era. Especially at a time when many communities are actively dealing with their history, it would be appropriate to take a more differentiated view of Schmeling's legacy. It is known that he refused to join the NSDAP and protected his Jewish friends.

The baroque hall church was built around 1700 from fieldstone and brick. The nave is pentagonal in the east. In the west there is a wooden bell tower, which was built in 1662 and is covered with an eight-sided, slate-covered, pointed helmet. The walls of the nave, which has a gable roof, are supported by buttresses.

Since June 2017, the barn has been converted into a café. Finally more space for groups, events and of course a meeting point in bad weather!
