The name "Frauenwinkel" dates back to a donation by Emperor Otto I in 965 to the "Our Lady" (Mother of God) convent in Einsiedeln. The current "Frauenwinkel" nature reserve with its two islands, Ufenau and Lützelau, is located in the municipality of Freienbach in Schwyz and, with its good 350 hectares, is the largest and most valuable nature reserve on the entire Lake Zurich. The parish of Freienbach was created in 1308 when the St. Nicholas Chapel was elevated to a parish church in 1158. When this first parish church became dilapidated, the current church interior was built between 1672 and 1674, the basic features of which correspond to the new building at that time. The island saint Adelrich replaced St. Nicholas as the main patron. The church interior was repeatedly redesigned and adapted. In 1772 it was thoroughly renovated for the first time, an organ was installed and Celestine Birchler from Einsiedeln painted three ceiling paintings. The church was enlarged in 1811 and again in 1904. The interior and exterior baroque form of the parish church was lost in the 19th century, but was restored again in the 1950 restoration. The church tower dome from 1895 was replaced in 1974 by a simple Käsbissen closure based on the model of the Ufenau Church. The parish church received the three bells in 1878, the new organ in 1975 and its current appearance in 1994 and 1995. The church was built in South German Baroque between 1707 and 1711 according to plans by Peter Thumb as his first work, although the Einsiedel monastery architect, Brother Caspar Moosbrugger, is sometimes incorrectly named.
