The Walloons' homeland was known for the production of high-quality cloth. The religious refugees brought their process expertise to Lambrecht in 1565 and quickly established production facilities to practice their craft again, thus creating a new foundation for their livelihood. Their denominational community spirit and industriousness led to the founding of the first cooperatively operated fulling mill, "Follerie au Pont," in 1570. With 32 shareholders, it was an important center of Lambrecht's cloth-making life. Source (quoted verbatim): Information panel 7 of the audio tour "Saladin and the Cloth Makers" (directly on the Speyerbach stream) This fulling mill operated until 1887 and was demolished in 1929.
