Since February 2005, the Wissow Crags have been a lost sight of what they once were. Approximately 50,000 cubic meters of chalk tumbled from the cliff into the sea.

The Ernst Moritz Arndt Viewpoint is an impressive vantage point in Jasmund National Park on Rügen. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the striking chalk cliffs and the Baltic Sea. The vantage point was named after the Rügen-born historian and writer Ernst Moritz Arndt.

There are three free options for parking your car and then starting your hike: The official car park is at Stadthof (east of the lake), or you can park in Parchtitz (approaching from the west), or in the large Familia car park and then cross the B96 (this is how you get to the lake from the south).

From this vantage point, you have a magnificent view of the Wissower Ufer. The lookout point is located just beyond the Piratenschlucht (Pirate Gorge) and is easily accessible. There's also a bench to rest on. Highly recommended, especially at sunrise: a special atmosphere and mood.

The Arkona lighthouse can be easily reached from Putgarten on foot, by bike or on the “Kap Arkona train”. Anyone who has climbed the 175 steps will be treated to a truly wonderful panoramic view… By the way, all the steps are numbered so you always know how many steps there are to the top!😉 Anyone who wants to enjoy the view from the lighthouse should definitely check the opening times: Closed November - March! April 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. May 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. June - September 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. October 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. As of 2025, admission costs €3 per person. In addition to the new lighthouse, there is much more to see on Kap Arkona: the old lighthouse (Schinkel tower), the military bunkers, the fog signal station, the direction-finding tower, the Slavic castle wall with Jaromasburg. A short walk to the fishing village of Vitt is also highly recommended from here.

Rügen's family-friendly trails offer diverse terrain. You'll find flat paths through ancient beech forests, soft coastal sand dunes, and well-maintained routes along the Bodden landscapes. Some coastal paths, like sections of the Hochuferweg, might have gentle inclines or steps, but many easy routes are relatively flat and well-suited for all ages.
Rügen is beautiful year-round, but spring (April-May) and early autumn (September-October) offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, making them ideal for family hikes. Summer (June-August) is also popular, especially for combining hikes with beach visits, though trails can be busier. The clear, salty air is invigorating in any season.
