We really liked it here, there's not much going on here at lunchtime, but there's a lot of activity here in the evenings.☺️

Next to the monastery is a small church with a nice view over the whole bay and its surroundings. You can walk there (10 mins from the main street) and also reach it by car/ scooter. It‘s definitely worth the effort.

Pothia, the main town of Kalymnos, is spread over a wide area in a semicircle on the surrounding hills. The port basin of Pothia, often also called Kalymnos City, is one of the largest in the entire Dodecanese Islands.

Interesting to learn how to work the sponges. However, they are cheaper at the small stalls in town.

Nice little fishing port! After the tourist boats came in, a bit overcrowded for my taste.

Yes, there are several easy circular routes perfect for families. For instance, the Pothia Harbor – Agios Nikolaos Church Square loop from Pothia is a short and easy option. Another great choice is the Monastery of Agios Savvas – Pothia Harbor loop from Pothia, which offers a slightly longer, yet still easy, circular experience.
The region offers a variety of natural beauty. You'll encounter the characteristic limestone terrain of Kalymnos, beautiful creeks, and rocky coves. While much of the island is barren, fertile valleys like Vathys and Pothia provide lush contrasts with olive groves and vineyards. Some areas also feature volcanic tuff and even natural springs.
While the immediate trails might not pass directly by all major sites, the broader Kalymnos island is rich in history. You can explore sites like the impressive Fortress of Kastelli, the ruins of a Byzantine fortress on Telendos, or the ancient tombs at Damos. The area of Agios Theologos itself is named after the deserted church of Agios Ioannis Theologos, which holds a festival on August 29th.
