The towing monument in Stürzelberg was inaugurated on May 1, 2001. It is located on the village square that has existed since 1999. The bronze statue consists of a boatman, a horse, and an implied ship's bow. It is unique on the Lower Rhine and recalls the times when Lower Rhine and Dutch cargo ships were pulled upstream on the Rhine with the help of horses. From the Middle Ages until around 1860, Rhine ships were towed at the foot of Stürzelberg's Unter- and Oberstraße streets using ropes attached to the mast. The towpath, the Leinpfad, which still exists today, marks the towing path used at the time on the Rhine bank. The towing monument is complemented by a bronze plaque, which visually depicts the towing process and explains the historical background of the monument.
