Built in 1583, the Seedorf gatehouse is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Schleswig-Holstein. The moats, ramparts and loopholes that still exist today reveal its former function as a well-protected castle complex. The former prison cells and torture chamber now house museum rooms, and concerts are held in the Knights' Hall. There are also regular guided tours of the museum. The newly designed exhibition focuses primarily on estate life in Seedorf and the stories of the owners' families. In addition to exhibits, the exhibition includes text panels created by a project group from Christian-Albrechts University. Estates of this period usually had a stately manor house, which in some places was also called a castle because of its magnificent architectural style. The lords of the manor lived in the manor house with their families. Behind the manor house there was an elaborate park or garden. In front of the manor house was the forecourt, which was surrounded by numerous stables and farm buildings. There were also apartments for the staff, a bakery, saddlery, etc., unless these were relocated to side farms. The front end was a gatehouse, which was intended to demonstrate the grandeur of the estate and protect it from intruders. The access roads to the gatehouse were planted with avenues. This made the estate's claim to power over the region visible from afar. https://www.holsteinischeschweiz.de/poi/seedorfer-torhaus

The Seedorf manor house was built in 1697 under Hans Blome, and the building was expanded through extensive renovations around 1750 under the princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. The classicist building reached its final state in 1829. The interior still contains the beautiful rococo stucco and classicist wall paintings. https://www.herrenhaus-seedorf.com/

The Seedorf manor house was built in 1697 by the Blome family and the Danish King Friedrich II and is located on the southern edge of the "Holstein Switzerland" cultural landscape. In an idyllic location, directly on Lake Seedorf, the former estate is surrounded by unique 300-year-old avenues. Source: https://www.herrenhaus-seedorf.com The Blome family owned many properties in the Plön district.

Cycle along the moat of the Seedorf estate and look at everything. Finally, an estate where not everything is private. Note the four cannons in the gatehouse and the horse rings on the ceiling at the gate passage.

The Seedorfer See and surrounding area nature reserve has existed since 1978 and is approximately 175 hectares in size. The area south of the Great Plön Lake consists of the lake, which is almost 76 hectares in size, and the adjacent areas. The special thing about this nature reserve is that the lake is surrounded by siltation zones with reeds, some of which are 200m wide, and are largely untouched. These siltation zones are partly adjoined by swamp forests, wet meadows and forest areas. These zones provide a safe and quiet habitat for many animals. Examples of this are the breeding grounds of the marsh harrier, gray goose, kingfisher and reed warbler in the reed zone between reeds, rushes and many other plants. Seedorfer See is also of particular importance for resting and wintering migratory birds. If you're lucky, you can even see a sea eagle hunting over the nature reserve.

A beautiful gatehouse with an interesting history. The gatehouse was built in 1583 in the Dutch late Renaissance style. It is part of the fortifications of the Seedorf estate.
