The Roland in Buch has an adventurous history: Around 1580, a 3.50 m high sandstone sculpture was erected on the Buch market square. It probably replaced an older wooden Roland figure. When the town hall was built, the Roland moved around 1680. When the town hall tower collapsed (just three years later), the sculpture was smashed and had to be reconstructed. In a major fire in 1690, the Roland lost his head, which was replaced by the current head - which is not true to the original. In 1693, the sculpture was given its current location.
