On the west side of the dam stretches one of Lower Saxony's large heathlands, covering an area of over 68 hectares. The area and its surroundings have been a nature reserve since 1938 and also an FFH (Flora-Fauna-Habitat) area since 2000. By the way: The heath bloom at the reservoir is thanks to around 220 sheep and 70 goats that graze daily in the heath all year round, thus preventing the heath from becoming overgrown with bushes. „Bäker´s Mühle“ In 1867, a windmilling cooperative was founded in Molbergen, which had the windmill erected in 1870. The cooperative sold the windmill a few years later to H. Hermes, who then later sold it on to Bäker. In May 1940, Bäker's windmill burned down, and the residential house of A. Lohmann on the other side of the street also burned down due to flying sparks. The cap windmill was not rebuilt for economic reasons. The massive base was covered with roof tiles. In 2007, the meanwhile dilapidated base was then demolished. Height: approx. 6 m Erected on 04.06.2018 Project title: Reconstruction of the cap windmill, typical of the region and landscape „Bäker’s Mühle” and reconstruction as a model at the historical location in the Multigeneration Park Molbergen. Project description: Model as a steel construction in a scale of approx. 1:4 to approx. 1:5 in a design as true to the original as possible (outer contour) Blades also made of steel construction profiles, drive by means of a geared motor with a speed of approx. 6 rpm for demonstration purposes, Cladding of the mill and blade construction by the local freelance artist Ivan Hutsul, with weather-resistant Powertex material - true-to-original appearance.

The heathlands and moors at the Thülsfelder Talsperre reservoir are crisscrossed by varied paths through open heath landscapes, quiet moorland areas, and shady forest sections. And every now and then you'll see one of the old, thatched sheepfolds – a beautiful photo opportunity.
