December 13, 2025, Twin Law Cairns

The two cairns of Twin Law(s) are located along the Southern Upland Way. On a clear day, they offer expansive views over the rolling hills of the Borders. One of the cairns has a single-person shelter from the wind, and a guest book is also located there.

Fallago Rig Wind Farm, located in the Lammermuir Hills, is typically closed to the public. However, during the annual Scottish Borders Doors Open Days, usually held in early September, the wind farm offers guided tours. These tours provide a unique opportunity to see the turbines up close, visit the control room, and learn about renewable energy operations. Advance booking is essential, and transportation is provided from nearby villages, as private vehicle access is not permitted. For the latest information on tour dates and booking details, check the official EDF Renewables UK website or local event listings. Really enchanting views from this spot on the Earlston Circular Path on the Carolside Estate. Gorgeous views of Black Hill and Blinkbonny Hill. Beautiful, green, and at the right time in the autumn, you get an Impressionist leaves colour attack!

This is the most awesome shelter you have ever seen! Frodo Baggins would be proud! There are picnic tables next to this extraordinary thatched, stone structure, so you can have your sustenance and beverage stop here, too.

The Black Bull is a great hotel with a nice restaurant open to the public. They showcase the best of the local Scottish produce in there funky dining room. Can be busy so it's worth booking ahead if you can.

Twin Law is a summit in the Lammermuir Hills which affords extensive views over the rugged landscape. On the summit you find two large cairns, the Twin Law Cairns. According to legend, the cairns mark the graves of two brothers who fought on opposite sides in an ancient battle.
