The hill's name likely derives from the bloody 1526 engagement, which, despite its significant scale, was perhaps simplified over time in local folklore.

There is a gap in the fence just further from here (if you are travelling by bike) rather than going over the style. Just head down from style to see it

Chester Hill, just outside the town of Lauder, is on the Souther Upland Way long-distance trail. There is a cairn on top (cairns are always good to rest your backpack against), and the spot offer wonderful views over Lauderdale.

Keldslie Hill is on the highest point of this track segment. It's a very pleasant walk on a wide farm track. Eildon Mid Hill is visible from up here in the distance if walking south; if you're walking north, obviously turn back - it's a gorgeous view!

The Black Bull is a great hotel with a nice restaurant open to the public. They showcase the best of the local Scottish produce in there funky dining room. Can be busy so it's worth booking ahead if you can.

At 314m, this Marilyn is the highest hill around, other than the Eildon hills. This hill can be tackled by parking on the minor road from Cowdenknowes and walking up the farm track to the hillside. The fastest approach from there is directly up the side of the hill.

A train station might not be the most glamorous of highlights to visit, but it's more about what it enables you to do. Tweedbank Station is the southern terminus of the Borders Railway, giving great access to the Scottish Borders. Whether you're on a bike or on foot, you can travel here from major cities and connecting lines for an incredibly remote and wild adventure in the Borderlands.
