Beautiful very informative museum about peat extraction

Opposite the town hall lies the broad and peaceful house where Waldsee stored its grain for centuries. Grain was the main food source. Thanks to its fertile hinterland, Waldsee had so much grain that it exported it to Switzerland. Grain held universal significance in Waldsee. It also served as a means of payment for the town. Thus, a grain wage was negotiated with Johann Spiegler, who took over the town school in 1639 as the only teacher. He was granted "a quarterly malter of rye." A granary was mentioned as early as 1348, but its current appearance, with its Gothic stepped gable, dates back to 1492, as proven by dendrochronological studies. Until after the First World War, the house served as a fruit shed. Since 1972, it has been given new life. The town, together with the Museum and Local History Society, has brought together the riches of its past into a museum here. A pillar in the mayor's room conveys the message carved in stone: "anno domini 1426 do war daz hus angefangen und was burgermaister ulrich kudrer und baumaister." St. Peter's Parish Church defines the cityscape like no other building. Its striking twin towers greet you from afar and are reflected in the city lake, near which the church is built on a gravel ridge. You'll find many churches with two towers, but the angled arrangement on the magnificent west façade is rare, if not unique.

Beautiful half-timbered houses in the village. They have been extensively renovated and everything has been done right.
