The church dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Miracle Worker comes from the town of Bączal Dolny near Jasło. It was built of fir wood in 1667 and then underwent reconstruction. After being moved to the Sanok open-air museum, its original appearance was restored. Based on: https://skansen.mblsanok.pl/sakralne.html ---------------------------- The photos I posted show the church on Palm Sunday, when the introductory part of the Open-air Museum is open to visitors free of charge, and Mass is celebrated in the historic church. During the liturgy, visiting the interior is prohibited. WW

The official name of the open-air museum is the Museum of Folk Architecture in Sanok (MBL). It covers a vast area on the right bank of the San River, limited from the north by a high escarpment, on which the Biała Góra housing estate is located, and from the east by the forested area of the Słonne Mountains. A great attraction is the Galician Market Square, where various occasional events are organized, e.g. before the holidays. The open-air museum lives according to its own calendar and is eagerly visited not only by tourists but also by the residents of Sanok. On the open-air museum area, divided into geographical and cultural sectors, you can visit many wooden buildings and see their equipment. The resourcefulness of the residents of that time, who were able to live and support their families in very modest conditions, without electricity, running water, gas and so many devices that we cannot imagine life without today, is admirable. The oil sector is a separate attraction. To get a better understanding of the range of objects gathered here, it is best to use the services of a guide. WW

The monument commemorates the launching of the MS Sanok general cargo ship in 1966. The ship was 99.5 m long, had a deadweight tonnage of 3,015 DWT, served in the years 1966-1987 and was owned by Polskie Linie Oceaniczne. The monument with anchors is a very exotic souvenir in Sanok, considering that Sanok is not a seaside city, it does not even have a navigable connection to the sea, like Gliwice has (via the Gliwice Canal and the Oder), where to emphasize this connection and the maritime nature of the city stands the Neptune monument*. 😀 Sanok, located in the remote, south-eastern corner of Poland, is one of the cities located farthest from the Baltic coast. By road from Sanok to the nearest sea coast (Stegna commune) is about 750 km, and to the Black Sea and Adriatic even further. Technical data of the ship based on Wikipedia. https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Sanok *) https://gliwice.eu/wizytowka/zabytki/fontanna-z-rzezba-neptuna

The monument, erected in 2023, commemorates the inhabitants of the Sanok region who were deported to the East during World War II. Currently, a bicycle path is being built right behind the monument as part of the maintenance of the riverside recreational area called Sybiraków Boulevard. The Sanok Land was divided along the San River by the German-Soviet border under the Ribbentrop-Molotov Agreement of 1939, called the fourth partition of Poland. Both occupiers - the Germans and the Soviets - carried out barbaric cleaning in their part of the occupied Polish territory. This border survived until June 1941, when the Germans attacked the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. WW

In times long past, the Market Square in Sanok was an oasis of greenery in this part of the city. After the change of regime, the trees were cut down, and the Market Square was paved mostly in red, hence its name, Red Square. On hot days, the center of the square is unbearably hot. You can seek refreshment under the umbrellas where ice cream is sold, or by the fountain located closer to City Hall. Even better, stop by the Franciscan Church for a moment and find not only refreshment but also peace. WW

In the 1970s and 1980s, a housing estate was built between Śródmieście Sanok and the San River - a block of four-story buildings. The axes of this estate are Jana Pawła II Street and Traugutta Street. The first one is straight and straight, and the second one winds with gentle curves. At ul. A chapel was built near the Traugutt intersection. On May evenings, residents of nearby blocks gather there, praying together and singing Marian songs.
