The Saddle

Highlight • Viewpoint

If you’re not confident in the mountains, a walk to this point will give you that big mountain feel without much exposure. If you know what you’re doing, the ridge walks around this point are stunning and fairly technical.

Top of the Pass

Had to walk up the last part. Bike and gear 30kg with wrong gearing. Nothing to do with my lack of fitness😂

You get amazing views from the mountain pass. As you approach this imposing feature along Glen Rosa, you have to work hard to get the views of Glen Sannox and the sea beyond.

A' Chir Col

Highlight • Mountain Pass

This is a spectacular place, but it is important for walkers to take the left-hand, lower path to contour below the A'Chir ridge as that is a place for climbers only.

June 14, 2026, View of Glen Sannox and the Sea from The Saddle

The Saddle is to the side of the head of Glen Sannox and gives fabulous views down the glen, but also up to the neighbouring mountains. Requires care when descending from the Saddle into Glen Sannox.

This deep notch in the ridge appears to be a fault-line with a deep groove down the mountain side by north and south. The east side is a rock climb, the west side an awkward clamber with exposure. A very atmospheric and airy place!

The Saddle is the Col between Cir Mhor and Goat Fell, and it is also the pass between Glen Rosa and Glen Sannox. The descent into Glen Rosa is straight forward, but climbing down into the head of Glen Sannox requires a good deal of care.

Spectacualr views back down the valley, through the past, to the sea. Be careful which way you take to get here though. Dont go the way I went, unless you're a very confident hike a biker with a light bike (which I'm not, and my bike isn't).
