Szopczański Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

A gorge leading among beautiful rocks, next to a path and sometimes along it flows a stream with clean, crystal clear water.

Wonderful views from the western banks of the Dunajec, south of Krościenko nad Dunajcem. In addition, the rather colossal Zawiesa rock hanging here over the bank (the result of past quarries) commands respect.

Tips from the Community

Mariusz Kucharczyk
December 29, 2025, Dunajec River Rafting in Pieniny National Park

One of the most overrated attractions in the region. The trip takes a long time (over two hours of sitting still), on cold days it's freezing, and on warm days there's no way to escape the heat. A raft is boring as a means of transportation – a simple walk or bike ride is definitely more satisfying, but the best way to get around this section is by inflatable kayak (single or double). To make matters worse, the raftsmen throw out such stale biscuits that after fifteen minutes, the prospect of spending another two hours in their company becomes a curse. But what can you say?

August 26, 2023, Szopczański Gorge

A gorge leading among beautiful rocks, next to a path and sometimes along it flows a stream with clean, crystal clear water. According to the legends used by Henryk Sienkiewicz in The Deluge - it was here that John Casimir was saved by the highlanders when he returned from Silesia to Poland to defend our homeland against the Swedes.
