At 14,274 feet, Castle Peak rises up as the tallest 14er in the Elk Mountains. It's a class 2 approach once you reach the upper rockier sections, so don't plan on running every step on this mountain. It is still a popular peak and doesn't require any special gear unless you go in the early spring or late fall when snow is present.

Make sure you bring a light jacket – so you can enjoy the unique views even longer. The wind up here at 12,600 feet can be cold as hell. Now, it's time to shred – it's all downhill from here. Expect a ultra-fast above treeline section with some exposed parts – ride within you limits, falling is not an option.
