Just a stone's throw from the salty North Sea coast lies the Wangermeer lake. On the northern outskirts of Hohenkirchen, the approximately 100-hectare freshwater lake stretches through the inland and invites exploration. A highlight of the Wangermeer lake is a large island, accessible on foot or by bike via a 325-meter-long promenade bridge. A wide variety of animal species can also be observed here. The lake, which is around 100 hectares in size, has a large round island in the middle that can be reached on foot and by bike via a 325-metre-long promenade bridge. The bridge is architecturally interesting and striking, and is also fitted with visually appealing lights, so that you can walk along it even in the dark.

The circuit around the lake is just over 5 km long and has plenty of places to sit. The leisure park (closed in winter) gives the lake a few extras and the Stumbude cafe/snack bar gives visitors the chance to get some refreshment. There is also a small fitness course. A promenade bridge also makes for a great photo opportunity at night.
