An accident blackspot and only suitable for climbers. Visit Wasdale mountain rescue website for information. Decent to the south via foxes tarn if transiting from Scafell to/from Scafell Pike. The Foxes tarn route in its self is steep and arduous. Alternatively for another step and arduous route take Lords Rake to the north

This is the ankle killer part ! One step forward 2 back and a twist and turn π€ͺ its worse coming down than going up, be careful with your footing and if you slip or skid go with it π£ good luck.

This is a short but high ascent of a scramble called Foxes Rake. It is a relatively easy scramble but if wet would be very slippy. This takes you up to a plateau where Foxes Tarn should be if not in drought (it was) and then you can choose if you want to play and scramble again up stagger up what was grass banking as such. Once at the top you can tap out on Scafell Cairn the 2nd highest Fell in the Lakes.

The weather can change 20 times before you summit. Make sure you have layers and if possible a hot drink. Ive done this twice both in August's and have been sun burnt on the bottom and wind burnt on the top. π΅βπ«

While Stanley Ghyll Force is popular, the Duddon Valley is known for its unique character and relative freedom from crowds compared to other parts of the Lake District. Exploring trails around the Dunnerdale Fells or lesser-known tarns like Low Birker Tarn might offer a more secluded experience, even when seeking out smaller cascades.

While specific parking details for every trail are not provided, Ulpha is a rural area, and parking is generally available at trailheads or designated car parks within the Duddon Valley. It's always a good idea to check specific route details for parking information before you go.
Ulpha is nestled in the tranquil Duddon Valley, which is less accessible by extensive public transport compared to larger towns. While some bus services may operate in the wider Lake District, direct public transport to specific trailheads in Ulpha might be limited. Planning your journey in advance and checking local bus schedules is recommended.
The waterfalls are often at their most impressive after periods of rain, typically in autumn or spring, when water levels are higher. Summer offers milder weather for hiking, though waterfalls might be less powerful. Winter can be beautiful but requires appropriate gear for colder, potentially icy conditions.
For experienced hikers seeking a challenge, routes like the Lingcove Beck Packhorse Bridge β Tongue Pot loop from Harter Fell offer rugged mountainous terrain and can be quite demanding. These longer routes often traverse areas with numerous streams and cascades, providing a true wilderness experience.
