The Düren bathing lake goes back to a lignite opencast mine and is the result of extensive recultivation. On hot summer days, hundreds of bathers enjoy themselves in the water under the supervision of the DLRG. A visit for fishing and walking is worthwhile all year round.

Photo: Dennis Stratmann, Grünmetropole e.V. The Düren bathing lake offers a 600 m long sandy beach, plenty of green sunbathing areas and sporting attractions. Sporting attractions: water ski facility water play park pedal boats Bathing islands with diving board two beach volleyball courts Badminton, table tennis and basketball courts Water surface: 35 ha (350,000 m²). The water of the groundwater lake is not only clean, but also pleasantly warm in early summer. Fresh water is constantly supplied by a small water source. Several thousand aquatic plants clean the natural bathing lake and filter the water in a biological way that is gentle on the environment, but also on the health of children and families. The biological self-cleaning of the natural bathing lake guarantees crystal-clear water quality without any chemicals. The water quality not only meets the EU standards for bathing water. According to the measurements in 2004, it was rated as "very well suited for bathing". The water quality is officially checked twice a year. The Düren bathing lake is a quarry pond that was filled with gravel. It was originally a lignite opencast mine and is listed in the relevant archives as "Düren opencast mine". The construction costs of the outdoor pool amounted to 3.14 million marks. Construction of the bathing bridge began in mid-1976, at a cost of 1.68 million marks. Then the kiosks were expanded, at a cost of DM 260,000. The capacity is reached at 10,000 bathers. The water surface has a size of 350,000 m² and a maximum depth of 11 m as well as a land area of 20,000 m². It offers children and families natural and relaxing bathing fun with a gradually flattening shore area.
