A really idyllic spot 👍 The square island of 26 × 26 m in the pond on the outskirts carried a high medieval island castle next to a farm yard. The impressive castle ruin of the same name rises between Weimar and Rudolstadt, above the small community of Ehrenstein. The Counts of Schwarzburg once resided on the mountain. After various changes of ownership, the castle was abandoned at the end of the 17th century. Currently only parts of the ruin can be visited because the weather has affected the castle.
