The facility has a vital wastewater engineering function for the city: It ventilates the enormous "Hauptsammler Mitte" (storage sewer) running underneath. This underground storage sewer transports wastewater and rainwater across the city to the Süd treatment plant. It is dimensioned so massively that theoretically a double-decker bus could drive through it. The pipes on the surface ensure the necessary air exchange to prevent dangerous gas formation in the 1,550-kilometer-long Düsseldorf sewer network. The three-part structure, reminiscent of the Loch Ness Monster, was designed in 1996 (often cited as the construction year, design work began in 1994) by architect and object designer Inge Loerke as part of the urban design. Instead of gray, dreary industrial pipes, she designed a three-headed, cheerful "monster family" made of steel. As the pipes were heavily strained by weather and graffiti over the years, the City of Düsseldorf completely renovated the sculptures in 2021 and repainted them in eight precisely defined original colors to secure the facility's cult status for the future.

The Graf-Recke Church in Wittlaer is centrally located in the village and blends harmoniously into the quiet, village-like surroundings. The simple, bright building appears rather reserved from the outside, but it is precisely this that gives it a special charm.

The park surrounding Benrath Palace is sensational. The views across the reflecting pool, both from the palace and in the direction of the palace, are equally impressive.
