August 15, 2026, Garden City Lands

Garden City Lands is a 55-hectare open space in central Richmond, combining urban agriculture, preserved bog habitat and a network of trails. The main perimeter trail is about 2.9 kilometres and is shared by people walking and cycling, with wide views across the open landscape. It feels surprisingly spacious for somewhere so close to the city centre, and the mix of farmland and wetland makes this a good spot for birdlife too.

The bog is one of the most distinctive parts of Garden City Lands, preserving a remnant of Richmond’s original peatland landscape within the city. The open ground, low vegetation and wetter soils feel very different from the agricultural areas nearby, and the trails give you a good look across that change in habitat. It’s also an important conservation area, so stay on the designated paths as you pass through.

The North Arm of the Fraser River is the northernmost of the three main channels into which the Fraser River splits as it flows through the highly developed Fraser River Estuary and empties into the Strait of Georgia. While the North Arm is heavily industrialized, it remains an important spawning area for salmon.
