Tips from the Community

January 30, 2024, Alcoa Duck Pond

This is a lovely 7.7-acre pond that is located near the Maryville-Alcoa Greenway. In fact, the greenway runs right alongside the pond. The views of the pond are great, and it is a popular place for bird watchers.

Tucker Springs is a small spring by a large rock wall just off of the Maryville Greenbelt, a popular multi-use path. This is a nice place to pause on your ride, and it's easy to find because there is a historical marker sign.

West Prong Trail passes right through the West Prong #18 campsite. You can reserve this site through the park service, or you can hike out and back to the river as a day hike. This cove is a beautiful area and has plenty of room for multiple groups to spend an afternoon or a night.

Spruce Flats Falls is only a short hike from the Upper Tremont Road Parking Lot, but the trail is pretty rocky and rooty. The trail actually doesn't even show up on park maps, but the trail is well blazed and easy to follow. There is a set of narrow, wooden walkways and steps before getting down to the waters. The falls, themselves, are an awesome sight and frequented by many visitors. You can get closer to the falls on the shore, but be careful of rocky and slick footing.
