In the diary – published later – of his pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago, the German entertainer Hape (Hans-Peter) Kerkeling also writes about the meditative experience of praying the Rosary together, which he personally experienced in the “megalomaniacal village church that has what it takes to be a cathedral” in Castildelgado (Castile). Under the date of June 21, 2001, he notes: „I really have to see the only sight in the village! (…) All the more pleased is she that I want to see the jewel of Castildelgado and accompanies me inside. Our sightseeing tour is quickly over in front of the altar and so the woman asks me to take a seat on one of the wonderfully cool church pews. Gradually, more [people]… enter the church. The elderly lady begins to pray the Rosary. The monotonous chanting has a calming effect and the constantly repeating lament gives strength, security, and brings peace! So, after being able to say the words along, I join in the mantra...“ (Hape Kerkeling in „Ich bin dann mal weg. Meine Reise auf dem Jakobsweg“)

This summer the Borosa trail is under full reconstruction. As of today, the most touristy section known as the Cerrada de Elias is closed to the public. The entire route can be done, following the main track, the bridges up to the power station are supported. The trail between the power station and the Calavera waterfall is destroyed, but it is passable.

Did you know that Santiago de la Espada is one of the most extensive villages in Spain, but I never imagined that the entire Senda del Borosa was within the municipality.

Today at the Borosa and Las Truchas streams the water is brown, due to the sediments carried by the rains of the last few days. In the stream the water is transparent and crystal clear, an option for less rural bathers on days like this! ;)

Nice and comfortable accommodation. We stayed there on our long-distance hike from Tarifa to Switzerland and can highly recommend the apartment.
