June 7, 2026, Hirsau Hunting Lodge Ruins

The Duke's castle is mentioned alongside the New Pleasure House in Stuttgart and the Collegium Illustre in Tübingen as an architectural masterpiece of the Renaissance era. All three buildings had the same master builder: the court architect Georg Beer (1527–1600). The Duke used his castle as a suitable residence during hunts and as accommodation for spa trips to Liebenzell. About 100 years after its construction, it, like the adjacent monastery, was burned down by French troops during the War of the Palatinate Succession. Of the once magnificent furnishings, only sparse remains such as architectural fragments and parts of a large fireplace have survived. The less destroyed west wing of the castle was converted into a grain store in 1740.
