Obenstrohe Mill Pond The "Mill Pond" in Obenstrohe, a district of Varel on the Jade Bay, is an ancient forest lake in the Seghorn Forest. The "Mill Pond" used to be used as a recreational lake and rowing boats were used. Today, Varel sports fishermen look after the lake. A fish educational trail has also been created with information about flora and fauna. The beautiful circular hiking trails invite you to take walks at any time of year. Enjoy the peace and nature.

Relaxed through the city forest....

At the end of the Windallee are the stone pillars that show the entrance to the Varel Forest. The stone pillars at the entrance to the forest also symbolize the slogan "Varel - city between forest and sea". From the castle square you can already see the white gate and reach it quickly. The "stone pillars", which have been a motif for photographers and painters for many years, separate the city from the forest. The "Jungesholz forest adventure trail" begins there, which winds its way through the forest for about 3 km. In addition to the "Junges Holz" city forest, various forest areas in the individual districts of the city of Varel with a total area of over 1000 hectares belong to the Varel Forest. Detailed information: Until the end of the Bentinck rule in 1854, the forest was owned by the count, with the Windallee leading from the castle square directly to the "Große Allee" in the forest and both representing the bridle path for the count's rule. The "Stone Pillars", a motif for photographers and painters for many years.

Several easy-to-drive paths lead through the Varel city forest. Unfortunately, you also have to realize that there are always attempts by unreasonable people to simply create wild trails in the forest ;-(

Until the end of Bentinck's rule in 1854, the forest was owned by the counts, with the Windallee leading from the Schlossplatz directly to the "Große Allee" in the forest, both of which represented the bridle path for the count's rulers. The "stone pillars" separate the city from the forest. Today, the Vareler Stadtwald is a popular local recreation area and offers its advantages in every season, from the shady, cool spot in summer to tobogganing in the "Sandkuhle" in winter. The cycle paths through the Varel Forest are easy to cycle on. On the way from the city center to the forest you should use the Windallee with its beautiful villas on both sides of the street.
