Hiking trails in Polder Zeevang traverse a distinctive flat, open, and water-rich peat meadow landscape. This region is characterized by its strip-like land division, a legacy of 10th-century peat bog clearing, with long, straight ditches separating narrow strips of land. The landscape is largely devoid of trees, offering expansive, unobstructed views across wet pastures and damp meadows. A network of dikes and historic breakthrough gullies, known as "braken," further define the terrain.

The Kwakelbrug is one of the few wooden "seesaw bridges" still in Edam. A yoke divides the suspended chain into two parts, to which the flap is attached. The 'spriet' is the upper beam of the bridge; at the end, it is widened by a weight so that a strong jerk on the chain causes the bridge to rise. From the bridge, you have a beautiful view of the shipyard on the Boerenverdriet (part of the water) and the play tower. A very worthwhile spot for photographers.

Located in the charming town of Purmerend, City Trip Hostels offers a modern and affordable stay just outside Amsterdam. The hostel features comfortable private and shared pods, providing a cozy yet social atmosphere. Purmerend is the perfect base for exploring both the vibrant capital and the scenic countryside of North Holland. Cycle through the historic streets, visit nearby windmills, or take a short ride to Amsterdam’s bustling city center. After a day of adventure, relax in the hostel’s communal areas or explore the local cafés and restaurants.

Beautiful mill in restored condition. You can also visit the mill from the inside. The interior gives a nice picture of how the miller and his family lived

Edam is a small town. Very well maintained and I particularly liked the traditional cheese market. There are canals and bridges everywhere and some are so narrow that small cars can barely drive over the drawbridge. Edam is also interesting because the bus to Amsterdam goes from there and from Edam you can get to Amsterdam by bus in 20 minutes.

The Play Tower is the remaining tower of the former Church of Our Lady. Part of the church was demolished during the 1972 restoration, causing the tower to fall. Emergency measures prevented collapse, but the tower no longer leans straight. The tower is an indispensable part of the cityscape of Edam.
