The 'spriet' is the upper beam of the bridge; at the end, it is widened by a weight so that a strong jerk on the chain causes the bridge to rise. From the bridge, you have a beautiful view of the shipyard on the Boerenverdriet (part of the water) and the play tower. A very worthwhile spot for photographers.
