Greetings! I recently stumbled across something really cool: https://chicken-road-spiel.de/ , a site entirely dedicated to the crazy Chicken Road. The mix of arcade action and crash mechanics is truly exciting! You control a hen through dangerous obstacles to the golden egg, and you can decide at any time whether you want to collect the winnings or keep playing. There are four difficulty levels that provide plenty of thrills, especially in hardcore mode. What's especially cool is that you can play the demo for free before using real money. It also runs easily on your mobile in the browser – no download necessary.

View of the Bay of Bracoa, where Columbus landed for the second time because he suspected an island in El Yunque. Here he had erected a 12m high wooden cross. The remains of a cross can be seen in the Church of Baracoa. German speaking tours can be organized with Norge at baracoa.at. norge@baracoa.at

Small beach that was only visited by a few Cubans when I visited. Nothing for the whole day but ok for an hour. Swimming was unfortunately not possible with too many stones when the surf was too strong.

Even if it is not always the smallest hiking trail, it is still interesting how unique the wildlife in Cuba is.

Nice break cookies to enjoy. For little money there are fruits to eat.

Overpass over the Duaba. There is no bridge - bathing suits and waterproof pack sacks are recommended here.

Baracoa's hiking trails offer a diverse experience, ranging from lush tropical rainforests and significant river systems like the Yumuri and Duaba, to coastal paths and unique geological formations such as karst cliffs. You'll find routes through dense vegetation and along scenic riverbanks, often leading to natural pools and waterfalls.
While many trails in Baracoa are rated moderate, some shorter loops can be suitable for families or those seeking a less strenuous walk. For instance, the Hiking loop from Infopoint Alexander Humboldt National Park is a moderate 4.9 km trail that takes about 1 hour 35 minutes, offering a glimpse into a UNESCO World Heritage site's biodiversity without being overly challenging.
Yes, Baracoa offers several circular routes. A popular option is the Lagoon of Río Miel – Playa Blanca loop from Baracoa, which is a 11.9 km trail that explores coastal areas and the Río Miel lagoon. Another is the Hiking loop from Santa María, an 8.6 km moderate route.
Absolutely. Baracoa is known as the 'Water City' due to its abundant rivers and waterfalls. The hike to El Yunque, for example, can lead to the Saltadero waterfall. The Yumuri Canyon offers opportunities to cross the river by boat and hike to natural pools for swimming, and longer hikes can lead to the Belete waterfalls. The Duaba River also features idyllic waterfalls and natural pools, often incorporated into routes like the Duaba River Crossing – Refreshment Hut at El Yunque loop from Yunque de Baracoa.
Baracoa is a biodiversity hotspot, especially within the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Trails here, such as the Hiking loop from Infopoint Alexander Humboldt National Park, offer chances to observe diverse flora and fauna, including endemic birds, insects, and unique plant life. The region's varied habitats, from rainforests to serpentine rock charrascal, support a wide array of species.
For certain protected areas, particularly within the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park and for popular ascents like El Yunque, it is often required or highly recommended to hire a local guide. Guides can help with navigation, provide insights into the local ecosystem, and ensure compliance with park regulations. It's advisable to check local requirements before heading out.
Beyond the trails themselves, Baracoa offers several points of interest. The iconic flat-topped mountain El Yunque (Baracoa) is a major hiking destination with panoramic views. The journey to Baracoa itself, particularly traversing the La Farola Pass, offers breathtaking vistas. You can also explore the unique biodiversity of Alejandro de Humboldt National Park.
Baracoa has a tropical climate. The drier season, generally from November to April, is often considered the most comfortable for hiking, with less humidity and rainfall. However, the lush rainforests mean that rain can occur at any time of year, contributing to the vibrant green landscapes and flowing rivers. Always be prepared for tropical conditions.
Given the tropical rainforest environment, lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended. Sturdy, waterproof hiking shoes with good grip are essential, especially for potentially slippery or muddy trails. Bringing plenty of water, insect repellent, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and a rain jacket is also advisable. For trails involving river crossings or swimming, consider quick-drying clothes and a towel.
Hiking durations in Baracoa vary significantly depending on the trail and your pace. Shorter, moderate loops like the Hiking loop from Infopoint Alexander Humboldt National Park can be completed in under 2 hours. Longer, more challenging routes, such as the Duaba River Crossing – Duaba River loop from Baracoa, which is 22.2 km and rated difficult, can take over 6 hours.
The hiking trails in Baracoa are highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.75 stars from 8 reviews. Hikers often praise the region's stunning natural beauty, the immersive experience of the tropical rainforests, and the unique combination of mountains, rivers, and coastline.
