The view from the Zeitberg is breathtaking. Your gaze wanders from the mountains far out into the Alpine foothills. Just a few steps away you can take a break and let yourself be pampered in the Hörnlehütte.

The Osterseen are a group of bodies of water south of Lake Starnberg in the Weilheim-Schongau district in Upper Bavaria. The southern and central Osterseen with the Großer Ostersee belong to the municipality of Iffeldorf, the northern Osterseen from the Stechsee and the Frechensee to the municipality of Seeshaupt. Iffeldorf is around five kilometers by road northwest of Penzberg, 20 km southeast of the district town of Weilheim and 50 km south-southwest of Munich city centre. The 20 larger individual lakes have a total area of around 225 hectares and an average depth of a good nine metres. The Kleiner Gröbensee and about 15 unnamed smaller lakes, each with an area of only a few hundred square meters, are not included here, seven of which are already heavily silted up. The Osterseen and the silting-up zone bordering to the west are located in the landscape protection area "Protection of the Osterseen and their surroundings in the communities of Frauenrain, Iffeldorf and Seeshaupt". The area received this protection status as early as 1955. Since 1981 there has also been the Osterseen nature reserve with an area of 1,083 hectares. About a third of this is on the surface of the water bodies, 494 hectares are high, low and intermediate moors, 172 hectares consist of semi-natural mixed forest. Around five percent of the Osterseen landscape consists of riparian regions, silted-up areas and meadows. The nature reserve is divided into three parts, which are separated from each other by the train line of the Kochelseebahn and the state road 2063: Südliche Osterseen, Nordliche Osterseen and Frechensee. In May 1997, the Osterseen were reported to Brussels as a SPA (European bird sanctuary) and FFH area according to the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive. In addition to the Eggstätt-Hemhofer lake district and the Seeoner lakes, the area is the largest and most structured icefall landscape in the Bavarian Alpine foothills. The complex of boggy and nutrient-poor lakes, low, transitional and raised bogs alongside bog and swamp forests with its extraordinary diversity of species in the networked habitats, biotopes and ecological niches is of Europe-wide importance for basic scientific research. The beauty of this landscape has always attracted artists. The painter Georg Schrimpf in particular, a main representative of the New Objectivity art movement, created several oil paintings of the Osterseen in the 1930s. A stroll through the village reveals well-preserved farmhouses and intricate carved wayside crosses.

Yes, several attractions are suitable for families. The Great Ostersee offers a small beach where families can swim and refresh themselves. The Vorderes Hörnle summit is also categorized as family-friendly, providing accessible views. The Lake Staffelsee area is also great for family outings, with beautiful tracks along the southern shore.
For breathtaking views, head to Vorderes Hörnle, which offers fantastic panoramas of the Zugspitze, the Alps, the Staffelsee, and the Murnauer Moos. The Zeitberg Summit also provides a wide view of the valley and is close to the Hörndle Hütte. Additionally, the Langer Filz boardwalk in Murnauer Moos offers a unique perspective of the surrounding mountains and moor landscape.
Huglfing's charm, with its flower-filled village squares and green spaces, is particularly evident during the warmer months. Spring and summer are ideal for enjoying the natural landscapes, outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, and the village's beautifully tended gardens. The 'HUGLFING KLINGT' chamber music festival, often held in historical venues, also takes place during specific seasons, offering cultural experiences.
The Zeitberg Summit is noted as wheelchair accessible, offering wide views and comfortable seating. While the Langer Filz boardwalk is a unique experience, its narrow width (approx. 60 cm) and restriction against bicycles mean it might not be suitable for all mobility devices, so it's best to check specific accessibility details if planning a visit.
Huglfing offers authentic Bavarian culinary experiences. The Gasthaus Zum alten Wirth, conveniently located next to St. Magnus Church, serves classic Bavarian dishes in a cozy, wood-paneled setting or a small beer garden. Another excellent option is Gasthaus zur Moosmühle on Hauptstraße, known for its fresh, regional ingredients and traditional Bavarian cuisine.
The Pfaffenwinkel region, where Huglfing is situated, is characterized by its gently rolling landscape of meadows, forests, and small streams. It's known for its picturesque setting, which contributes to the village's peaceful and timeless atmosphere. The area is also rich in cultural heritage, with numerous churches, monasteries, and traditional Bavarian architecture, earning it the nickname 'Pfaffenwinkel' (Priests' Corner).
Huglfing has been recognized with the gold medal by Entente Florale Europe for its outstanding village design, sustainability, and community spirit. This is evident in its flower-filled village squares, communally maintained green areas, and beautifully designed front gardens. A stroll through the village reveals well-preserved farmhouses adorned with flower-decked balconies, showcasing a commitment to aesthetics and tradition.
Beyond the main attractions, Huglfing's charm lies in its details. Look for the Sundial constructed above Huglfing and the sculpture by Susanne Hanus in the southern industrial area for unique artistic touches. Exploring the village's side streets will also reveal numerous intricate carved wayside crosses and small chapels, offering glimpses into local faith and tradition away from the main thoroughfares.
