Probably the only surviving cast iron tower... The climb is always worth it. It costs 2 € and goes through a machine... so put some change in it... the 120 steps are rewarded with a great view

The Czorneboh is one of the highlights in the region. Many visitors flock here especially at the weekend. There are ascents of various difficulties to the summit. I chose the crossing from Hromadnik over the ridge. Adventurous but very cool. There is refreshment in the mountain hut and then you definitely have to go up the tower. The view to the west and north is wonderful. Unfortunately, towards the south and east, the trees are now taller than the tower. Since 1867 there has been a station of the Royal Saxon Triangulation on the tower. The granite pillar in the tower structure is a reminder of this. "The Royal Saxon Triangulation (here with the historical proper name) is a state survey carried out in the years 1862 to 1890 on the territory of the Kingdom of Saxony with the simultaneous creation of a trigonometric network. The aim was to record the national territory scientifically and geodetically and to create the basis for the production of precise maps by establishing permanently marked reference points." - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6niglich-S %C3%axial_triangulation#stations_2nd_order From the station one observed from N.T.R. Nostitzhöhe (in Poland); Strohmberg; Rothstein; Kottmar; Listen; Taubenberg; Valtenberg; butter mountain; salt forest; Grossdubrau

The region around Großschweidnitz offers several notable elevated points. Among the most popular are the König-Friedrich-August Tower on Löbauer Hill, known for its unique cast-iron structure and panoramic views, and Bieleboh Forest Lodge, which features a mountain lodge and an observation tower with expansive views over the Lusatian Mountains.
Yes, several locations are family-friendly. Both the Bieleboh Forest Lodge and the Czorneboh Mountain Inn and Lookout Tower are noted as family-friendly, offering amenities like restaurants and relatively accessible observation towers for all ages to enjoy the views.
The König-Friedrich-August Tower on Löbauer Hill is a significant historical site. It is recognized as the only remaining cast-iron observation tower in Europe and is likely its oldest, offering a unique blend of engineering history and scenic views.
Beyond enjoying the views, the region is excellent for various outdoor activities. You can find numerous routes for hiking, cycling, and gravel biking. These routes often lead to or pass by the elevated points, allowing you to combine physical activity with sightseeing.
Absolutely. The Lusatian Mountains offer a network of trails. For example, you can explore moderate hiking routes like the 'Lausitzblick Viewpoint – Kottmarsdorf Post Mill loop' or 'Jungfernsprung – Forest House in the Höllengrund loop' which provide access to the elevated landscapes. More details can be found in the hiking guide for Großschweidnitz.
The Bieleboh Forest Lodge offers overnight accommodation and a cozy dining room directly on the 500-meter-high Bieleboh. Similarly, the Czorneboh Mountain Inn and Lookout Tower also features a restaurant, providing convenient options for meals and refreshments during your visit.
Beyond panoramic views, you can encounter unique natural formations. For instance, the Summit rock formations on Hromadnik (Döhlener Berg) offer impressive rock cliffs and forest trails, reminiscent of Saxon Switzerland, providing opportunities for climbing and exploration.
Visitors frequently praise the stunning panoramic views from the observation towers, the unique historical architecture of structures like the König-Friedrich-August Tower, and the welcoming atmosphere and good food at the mountain inns. The combination of natural beauty and well-maintained facilities makes for a rewarding experience.
While many trails are moderate, locations like the Summit rock formations on Hromadnik (Döhlener Berg) offer impressive rock cliffs that are ideal for climbing, though caution is advised due to their challenging nature. The forest trails in this area also provide a more rugged experience.
The observation tower at Bieleboh is accessible year-round and around the clock. The Bieleboh Forest Lodge inn operates from Wednesday to Sunday, starting at 11:00. For the König-Friedrich-August Tower, there is a €2 entry fee via a machine, so ensure you have change. It's always a good idea to check specific opening times for restaurants or facilities before your visit.
While specific dog-friendly policies vary by location, generally, dogs are welcome on most hiking trails in the Lusatian Mountains, provided they are kept on a leash. Always check local signage or specific venue rules, especially for indoor areas of lodges or towers.
While the main peaks are well-known, a detour from the Czorneboh Mountain Inn and Lookout Tower to the nearby Teufelsfenster (Devil's Window) in the direction of Schönberg is highly recommended by visitors for an additional scenic experience.
