The Hessen Barracks is a Bundeswehr barracks located in Stadtallendorf near Marburg in Hesse, Germany, with a total area of approximately 30 hectares. It was built on the site of the former explosives factory of the Westfälisch-Anhaltische Sprengstoff-Actien-Gesellschaft (WASAG), which produced hexyl for ammunition production on behalf of the German Navy during World War II. The barracks were handed over in 1959 and housed primarily tank units until 2003. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hessen-Kaserne

Here in the Herrenwald forest, near the Rhine-Weser watershed, at the so-called Neustadt Saddle, the central part of the Upper Hessian Ridge, lies the source of this stream. It still lies within the municipal area of Stadtallendorf, but after just about 300 meters, the stream reaches the Neustadt area and winds its way through, among other places, the Neustadt town center and the village named after it, Wiera, before finally flowing into the Schwalm River in Treysa. The source area is relatively unspectacular: boggy ground and numerous puddles and pools. There is no bubbling spring.

A fairy-tale from the Brother's Grimm Once upon a time there was an old castle in the middle of a large, thick forest, in which an old woman lived all alone, she was an arch sorceress. During the day she made herself into a cat or a night owl, but in the evening she was properly shaped like a human being again. She could lure the game and the birds, and then she slaughtered, boiled and fried them. And so forth......

1283 is mentioned as the probable builder of the castle Ludwig de Forest, and in the 14th century the lords of Gleimenhain were the owners. In 1478 the castle was already desolate and went to Hans von Dörnberg. The castle continued to deteriorate, and in 1563 an agreement was reached with the Electorate of Mainz that it would not be rebuilt.

Former location of the Leopard II tanks in the Hessen barracks. Today the location of Hesse's paratroopers. A hiking route through the forests of Hesse that has been popular for many decades and includes an old car wash for tanks and, for example, a tank hill over which tanks used to practice climbing up to 40°. Old buildings can be seen today as Lost Place.
