The Alcalar necropolis is the most significant Neolithic site in the Algarve and a National Monument. It is located in the N. of Mexilhoeira Grande, in the municipality of Portimão. The massive cairn at the center of the complex, Monument 7, is the most impressive of the megalithic structures found there. The necropolis was part of a larger social and cultural development in the southern Iberian Peninsula that occurred around 3000 BC. It was during this period that fortified settlements were built that show evidence of copper metallurgy, the so-called Copper Age.

The Ponta do Altar Lighthouse (Farol da Ponta do Altar) stands on a cliff near Ferragudo, near Praia do Molhe. Built in 1893, it guides ships at the entrance to the mouth of the Rio Arade River. Small and white with a red roof, the lighthouse is situated on a magnificent viewpoint with panoramic views of the sea, Portimão, and the coastline. The surrounding area is ideal for clifftop walks.

The Silves City Gate (Porta da Cidade) is one of the old gateways to the walled medieval city. It was part of the original city defenses and is located near the historic center and the castle. Although only a portion of the gate remains, it offers a good overview of the former city walls and Silves' strategic location as the former Moorish capital of the Algarve. It's an atmospheric place to experience the city's rich history.

Thanks to its sturdy red sandstone walls and well-preserved structure, it is considered one of the best-preserved Moorish castles in Portugal. It has been designated a National Monument since 1910.

The former Cathedral of Silves (Portuguese: Sé Catedral de Silves), dedicated to the Conception of the Virgin Mary (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora da Conceição), was the episcopal church of the town of Silves from the 13th century until the transfer of the diocese of the Algarve in southern Portugal to Faro in 1577. The church is the oldest example of Gothic architecture in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, which was long occupied by the Arabs and Moors.
